THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SOUND
What are stop snoring exercises? It aims at relaxing and strengthening the jaw, the tongue and the throat, so that everything in your mouth reverts to a normal position while you are asleep. The position of the tongue and jaw do not get into the condition that results in snoring and thus you get rid of snoring. Moreover, these exercises makes you feel fresh, as it is easy for you to breathe. Snoring, on the other hand, is defined scientifically as a rough rattling noise made during sleep by vibration of the soft palate (the back of the roof of the mouth) and the uvula (the prominent structure dangling down at the back of the mouth). The air passes through the lungs by the tongue, the soft palate, the uvula, and the tonsils. The muscles in the back of the throat are normally tighter when the person is awake to hold these structures in place and prevent them from collapsing and vibrating in the airway. But when sleeping, the soft palate and uvula may vibrate causing the rough rattling sound. Like all other sounds, it is caused by vibrations that cause particles in the air to form sound waves likely the same way our vocal cords vibrate to form our voice when we speak or the way our stomach growls when were hungry. It is not true that only older people snore. Any person can snore, it only worsens as they get older and as they get heavier. Studies have been made and they have estimated that about 45% of men and 30% of women snore on a regular basis. Oftentimes, people who do not regularly snore will eventually report snoring after a viral illness, after drinking alcohol, or when taking some medications. While most of us believe that only large men with big thick necks snore the loudest, a thin woman with a small neck can snore just as loud or even louder in some cases. In general, people who snore can have any body type, big or small. More importantly, the often annoying snore sound may be the only sign of a more serious problem. People who snore, most especially the ones who snores a lot, should be evaluated to be sure that they do not have any sleeping problems or sleep related breathing problems such as sleep apnea, insomnia or hypersomnia to name a few. And it can also become a significant social problem for the snorer and the bed partner.
STOPING THE SOUND
So after learning what snoring is all about, you have finally decided that the stop snoring exercises are the best possible cures. But just where do you start? First, you might want to check on your weight. A little over 20% of the ideal body weight (depends on age, gender and height) can already lead to this problem. So if you feel that you are getting heavier, a little work-out wouldn't hurt. Subsequently, the food that you eat is also a snore-triggering factor. It is advisable to stay away from rich or fatty meals such as dairy products, fried food, baked goods and chocolates late at night. This would also mean that we have to leave the “drink your milk before your bedtime” to the kids. These are things that can lead to the blockage of the air passage such as the throat which could also lead to choking while asleep. Staying away from alcoholic beverages and smoking can also stop your worries of making that awful sound at night. Alcohol tends to relax the throat more than the usual while smoking may cause throat irritation that restrict the air flow. Then, start a basic exercise routine like brisk walking or jogging. Finally, you can do the exercise that most singers do, it is similar to a vocalization or learning to get as much air from the diaphragm and then releasing it through the mouth to help fully-open the airway passage preventing the muscles to stay in the relax mode even during sleep. This would most probably take a few minutes of your time every day. Of course, there are also many devices and remedies that you can readily buy that claim to reduce, if not, stop the snore. But even before you jump out of your bed and buy one of those fancy products from the pills to the pillows, it is always a very good move to seek the help of a doctor regarding your sleeping issue. They can perform test and evaluate your condition more effectively. We always have to remember that a solution given to a person may not be suitable for you. The natural way of stopping the snore is still one of the best, cheap and risk-free way of getting rid of the problem. The goal here is help you to be able to get that REM-quality sleep without the embarrassment and staying safe most especially during the time you are most likely to be defenseless. Stop the sound of nightmare for you and your bed partner. Start sleeping safe and sound...less.
